Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (AP) is concerned about the financial situation of the UN organization for Palestinian refugees and is increasing Norway’s financial support to the organization.

Support for the UN Organization for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) is increased to a total of NOK 1.1 billion over a period of four years.

“The UNRWA has a key role to play in ensuring that the rights and basic needs of Palestinian refugees are met and is also important for stability in the Middle East,” Huitfeldt said in a press release.

She shared the news of the increased support when she met UNRWA’s Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini in Oslo on Friday.

The contribution includes NOK 700 million over four years to the organization’s core budget and NOK 400 million over four years to the humanitarian programs.
