Norway plans to increase its contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in 2021 and 2022.
State Secretary Henrik Thune announced the information at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at a high-level conference in Brussels on Tuesday.
“UNRWA plays a crucial role in safeguarding the basic needs and rights of Palestinian refugees and is also important for stability.
“At the same time, UNRWA is critically underfunded. We will therefore increase the support,” Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt stated.
So far this year, the government has provided NOK 217 million to the UNRWA.
