In its new alcohol strategy, the Norwegian government proposes introducing warning labeling on alcoholic beverages. At the same time, early action against alcohol problems will also be strengthened.

“There is not a sharp distinction between the use and the harmful use of alcohol, and we have a responsibility to convey this. Therefore, we will propose introducing requirements for warning labeling on alcoholic beverages in Norway,” Minister of Health Bent Høie (H) said.

On Thursday, the national alcohol strategy for the period 2021 to 2025 was presented.

The government followed up the Norwegian parliament’s (Storting) decision from November 2018, when there was a majority for the Labor Party’s (AP), the Center Party (SP), and Christian Democratic Party’s (KrF) proposal to introduce health warning labeling on alcoholic beverages about alcohol use during pregnancy and in connection with driving.

The Conservatives (H), the Progress Party (FRP), and the Liberal Party (V) voted against the proposal at the time.
