Taxis in Norway drove a total of 195 million kilometers with passengers in 2020. That is a decrease of 30.7% from the previous year.
New figures from Statistics Norway (SSB) show that despite a stable six-year period between 2014 and 2019, the taxi industry was hit hard by the pandemic in 2020, with a decline of over 30%.
In 2019, Norwegians drove a total of 282 million kilometers by taxi. In 2020, the figure fell to 195 million kilometers.
The decrease is due to reduced activity as a result of the corona measures that were introduced in Norway in mid-March 2020.
Furthermore, only 6.2% of turnover was paid in cash last year, a decrease of 18.4% from the previous year and 63% compared with 2014.
In 2020, Troms and Finnmark had the largest share of cash payments, with 9.3%. The share was lowest in the Innlandet with 3.6%.
