In the first six months of the year, the number of house burglaries fell by more than 14% compared with the same period last year.

“The shutdown of the country, the shift to working from home, and domestic holidays for many have created more challenging conditions for the criminals,” communications manager Ole Irgens in Tryg Forsikring noted.

The insurance industry registered a total of 1,651 home burglaries in the first half of the year, valued at NOK 31 million, the company wrote in a press release.

The large drop in the number of burglaries occurred in the spring and summer when many Norwegians are usually traveling abroad.

However, this year, many Norwegians opted for domestic holidays due to the coronavirus pandemic.
