One in ten Norwegian prison inmates were released early to the Corona pandemic, according to a new study commissioned by the Council of Europe.

The other countries with a similar share are Cyprus, Slovenia, Portugal and Ireland, according to the study conducted by researchers at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland.

The measure was taken to prevent the spread of the Corona virus inside the walls.

A total of 118,000 prisoners were released in 20 of Europe’s 43 countries. Of these, over 100,000 were released in Turkey, with 35 percent of all inmates released to prevent Corona infection.
