Norway is acquiring a new tool in the fight against the coronavirus – a total of five million rapid tests, Minister of Health Bent Høie (H) said on Tuesday.

Norway has entered into a contract to buy three million rapid tests and also has the opportunity to buy another two million tests, Høie said at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

With that, Norway is guaranteed good coverage throughout the year and into the next year, the Minister of Health said.

A total of 1.1 million people have been tested for coronavirus in Norway since the start of the pandemic.

The first rapid tests are coming this week and will strengthen the testing capacity.

“The big advantage of quick tests is that you can get answers already after 15 minutes. Thus, infection tracking can get started faster,” Høie pointed out.
