Norway is strengthening its military presence in Lithuania with one more troop, Minister of Defense Odd-Roger Enoksen said on Tuesday.

The troop will travel to Lithuania soon, and will be deployed for a period of three months. There is a possibility of extension, Enoksen stated.

“We want to contribute to a strengthened Allied presence in the Baltics to show solidarity with our allies. For our part, this is best done by strengthening the contribution we already have in Lithuania,” Enoksen noted.

The backdrop to the decision is the tense security situation in and around Ukraine.

“We are in a very demanding security situation in Europe. The massive Russian (military) build-up around Ukraine, and the demands on the United States and Europe, have changed the security situation in Europe. This also affects Norway, and we are following the situation closely,” Enoksen concluded.
