Norwegian authorities are increasing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan by NOK 100 million.
“Over 18 million people in Afghanistan now need protection and life-saving assistance,” Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide (H) noted in a statement.
Eriksen Søreide will participate in the international donor conference for Afghanistan on Monday. She states that Norway is increasing humanitarian aid by NOK 100 million.
The money will be re-prioritized from long-term assistance to, among other things, emergency aid. Norway’s total earmarked humanitarian aid so far this year has amounted to NOK 261 million.
“The humanitarian needs were great even before the Taliban took over, as a result of the armed conflict, drought, and pandemic,” Eriksen Søreide pointed out.
