Norway will probably not use Merck’s corona pill

Even though the Norwegian Directorate of Health has purchased corona pills from Merck for 8,640 treatments, Norway will probably not use the pills, health director Bjørn Guldvog said on Sunday.

The specialist health service in Norway is very good, and patients infected with COVID-19 do not have a better prognosis if they receive the medicine, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) writes.

“We do not think it helps improve the outlook, so there is no reason to use it. There were promising results in the first part of the studies, but in the second part, the results were less promising,” Guldvog said.

In November, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) allowed the emergency use of the corona medicine, which meant that it could also be used in Norway.
