Norway will contribute with a ship in the Mediterranean for six more months,  Prime Minister Erna Solberg says.
Since last summer the Norwegian ship Siem Pilot has participated in the so-called Triton mission in the Mediterranean. The ship has been patrolling the waters between Libya and Italy, and the crew on board has helped saving thousands of boat refugees .
– Until now, the ship Siem Pilot has rescued or helped  saving more than 12,000 people who have risked their lives in the Mediterranean,  Prime Minister Erna Solberg says.
She believes the operation, led by the EU border agency Frontex, has worked very well.
– Norway’s contribution is highly appreciated. We will, therefore, offer Frontex a contribution in the form of a ship for initially six new months, says Solberg.
