Healthcare professionals who are arrested for sexual exploitation of patients can expect more severe reactions from the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision.
The Norwegian Board of Health Supervision warns stricter control and more police reports in cases where health professionals are arrested for sexual exploitation of patients, the newspaper VG writes.
In a new report, the Board also asks the Ministry of Health and Care Services to investigate the need for health personnel to be deprived of their authorization for life – in cases of abuse.
In the last ten years, the Norwegian Board of Health has dealt with a total of 147 cases in which health professionals have committed abuse, sexual exploitation, initiated sexual relations with patients, and similar.
In 94 cases, the person lost their authorization – the strictest measure the Norwegian Board of Health can enact.
According to the report, most supervisory cases concern doctors, nurses, psychologists, and physiotherapists.
