The Conservatives (H) are asking the government to consider introducing temporary collective protection for refugees from Ukraine.

The Socialist Left Party (SV), the Red Party (Rødt), the Green Party (MDG), the Christian Democrats (KrF), and the Liberal Party (V) have previously asked the government to do so.

“It is a very special situation, and the provision on collective protection can be used,” foreign policy spokesperson Ine Eriksen Søreide (H) told NTB.

On Wednesday, the European Commission proposed the introduction of temporary collective protection for all refugees from Ukraine. The government in Norway has been in close contact with the EU on how to deal with the refugee crisis.

Søreide, who heads the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in the Norwegian parliament (Storting), does not want to quantify how many refugees Norway should take in.

“We do not have any figures on that. We have only said that we must be ready to accept our share,” she noted.
