The Brazilian government has dissolved by decree the Amazon Fund Guidance Committee (COFA) and Amazon Fund Technical Committee (CTFA). Thus, given the current circumstance, Norway has no legal and technical basis for providing the annual contribution to the Amazon Fund planned for this year.
Norway has contributed 1.2 billion USD to the Amazon Fund since the beginning of the bilateral cooperation between Norway and Brazil on forest preservation in 2008. Payments are made based on verified results of reduced deforestation.
The dialogue between the partners of the Amazon Fund is still ongoing.
