Minister of Fisheries and Seafood Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen (H) has started a process to change the name of the Directorate of Fisheries to the Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

“The Directorate of Fisheries’ history dates back more than 100 years. The fisheries have been the dominant part of the directorate’s management responsibility, but the aquaculture industry has developed into a significant part of Norwegian seafood production and the Directorate of Fisheries’ tasks. It is time that this is also reflected in the name,” Ingebrigtsen stated in a press release.

Ingebrigtsen is also in favor of simplifying the regulations in the aquaculture industry.

A working group has come up with proposals that include, among other proposals, regulatory simplifications in the event of minor changes to existing sites and raising the lice limit at low sea temperatures.
