The FHI and the Norwegian Directorate of Health believe that the entry measures against African countries should be repealed but disagree on whether to continue testing everyone who comes to Norway.

In their new professional advice to the government, the professional authorities write that the infection situation domestically is very demanding with rising delta infection and the omicron variant that will soon become dominant in the country.

When the omicron variant was first detected in South Africa, entry measures were introduced against eight countries in Southern Africa. The health authorities want to repeal these entry measures.

The FHI also recommends that the testing requirement for all travelers after crossing the border be removed, but the Norwegian Directorate of Health does not agree.

“The system for testing after crossing the border is working well at the moment, and the Norwegian Directorate of Health does not want to remove this offer in a period of uncertainty about the further development of the pandemic,” the Directorate noted.
