The Norwegian Directorate of Health asks health and care institutions to make it easier for residents and patients to both visit and receive visits during the Christmas holidays.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health requests that residents and patients are able to receive visits and/or visit during the holidays, in line with national recommendations for private gatherings.

However, infection control considerations must be taken into account, the Directorate warned on its website.

The Directorate also noted that the health and care services should advise residents, patients, and relatives about which visits are considered justifiable based on the infection situation.

They should also provide information about which infection control measures must be followed.

On Friday, it became known that Oslo Municipality followed Bergen and asked residents of nursing homes not to go home at Christmas, out of consideration for their own risk of infection and the risk of infection for other residents in the nursing home.
