“Erna is very sorry that it has happened. We, who decide on these rules and who inform people about them, must be extra careful to follow the rules ourselves,” Høie said.

“It is not my job to reprimand her. Erna is a person who, to the highest degree, understands the seriousness of this situation,” Minister of Health Bent Høie said.

Following Erna Solberg’s breach of Norway’s corona guidelines, Assistant Director of Health Espen Nakstad accentuated that people want equality before the law.

Nakstad: People want equality before the law

“I must admit that this is very complicated here, especially how many people can gather in different contexts. This has been changed many times,” Nakstad told newspaper VG.

According to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK), Solberg’s family gathered two nights in a row, and there were more than ten people eating dinner together. She apologized after the fact. The gatherings took place in Geilo during the winter holidays.

Nakstad says that politicians’ compliance with corona rules does not necessarily encourage others to break the rules.

“But people want equality before the law,” he stated.
