Several places in Norway are experiencing high infection rates. Minister of Health Bent Høie (H) is concerned that the third corona wave peak in Norway is yet to come.

In the last 24 hours, 1,156 new corona infection cases have been registered in Norway. Oslo reported 495 cases, which is a clear 24-hour record in the capital.

“We are concerned that we do not yet see the top of the third wave and that it will continue. It often takes one to two weeks before the measures affect the infection figures,” Høie told news bureau NTB.

The Minister of Health described the infection situation as very serious.

“We also see that the increase in infection leads to what we have worked to avoid, namely that the hospitals are now experiencing a large burden and have to cancel other appointments,” he noted.

Assistant health director Espen Nakstad told newspaper VG that infection rates would probably continue to increase.

“In any case, the trend could change in two weeks if the compliance with measures is good. If we get the R number down fairly quickly, that could happen,” Nakstad said.
