On Sunday, King Harald turns 84 years old. He is currently on sick leave.

The king’s birthday will be celebrated privately on Sunday, the Palace informed news bureau NTB.

Last week, King Harald’s sick leave was extended for another month due to the knee operation he had at the end of January.

The Palace said that the king’s doctor had recommended further rehabilitation before the king resumed his constitutional duties.

According to the Palace, he has recently stayed at Kongsseteren, where he receives physiotherapy.

Successful operation

The king was admitted to Rikshospitalet on January 29 after having pain in his leg. The next day, he had a knee operation. The surgery was successful.

While the king is on sick leave, Crown Prince Haakon takes care of the king’s duties.

The king had several sick leaves in the last year and a half.

In September last year, he was on sick leave for a period in connection with a heart operation. In January last year, he was reported sick due to dizziness, and the previous autumn, he went on sick leave due to a viral infection.
