A new fiber optic underwater cable from Bodø to Røst will ensure Lofoten better internet connectivity.

– That means they become less susceptible to connectivity problems because they get a new way to supply connectivity to Lofoten. Such a solution has been sought after by the mayor in London, because the infrastructure has been vulnerable there, says Bjørn Amundsen, Director of Telenor.
Excluding the Svalbard cable, the 109 km long cable is the longest under water cable in Norway.

The cable weighs about 200 tons and is at the deepest point placed at 400 meters below sea level in the Vestfjord of Nordland.

The operation to put out the cable was very demanding according to Telenor, and has not been done by the company over such a distance before.
