Next week, Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram and Chief of Defense Eirik Kristoffersen will participate in a US-led meeting in Germany on Ukraine’s long-term defense needs.

“It is important that we stand together in support of Ukraine in their fight against the Russian invasion forces. The purpose of the meeting is to coordinate short and long-term security support for Ukraine,” Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram (SP) told NTB.

On Saturday night, Norwegian spokesman John Kirby at the US Department of Defense said that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin invited 40 countries to the meeting for consultations.

Continued support

During the meeting, the countries will take a closer look at how Ukraine’s partners can continue to support Ukraine militarily.

The United States will host the meeting next Tuesday at the US airbase Ramstein in western Germany.

Norway is among the countries that will participate in the meeting.

“The goal is that the overall support from the West has the best possible effect for Ukraine,” Bjørn Arild Gram said.
