Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs no longer advises against travel to Kazakhstan

Since January 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised against traveling to Kazakhstan. The advice is now being changed because the situation in the country has stabilized.

The advice against travel to Kazakhstan was put in place after extensive demonstrations and violent clashes between state security forces and protesters in several places in the country.

In January, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev claimed responsibility for a coup attempt by “armed militants” following widespread riots in Almaty and other cities.

Now, however, the situation has been calm for several weeks, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided that it is no longer necessary to discourage travel to Kazakhstan.
