There are still some Norwegian citizens in Afghanistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is unsure of the exact number but says they are in contact with several.

“The situation in Afghanistan is confusing and is developing rapidly. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with many Norwegian citizens who are in a difficult situation,” communications adviser Ragnhild H. Simenstad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote in an email to VG on Tuesday.

She is unsure of exactly how many Norwegian citizens are now in Afghanistan.

“Registering on reiseegistrering.no is voluntary, and we, therefore, do not have figures on how many Norwegian citizens stay in individual countries,” she said.

As the embassy is closed, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not have the opportunity to provide consular assistance to Norwegian citizens in Afghanistan. Those who try to contact the embassy will be referred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo.
