With a fortune of NOK 52 million, Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre (AP) is the government’s second-wealthiest multimillionaire.

He owns 70% of the company that bears the family name and was started in Haugesund in 1947. He told the newspaper that most of the assets are the shares in the furniture company.

VG has collected tax figures from 2016 to 2019, which show that Vestre had an income of between NOK 2.5 and 3.3 million. According to Vestre, this has been a combination of salary and dividends, as well as board fees and other benefits. The actual salary as general manager of the furniture company was in excess of NOK 1.5 million.

Thus, there will be no major change when the 35-year-old takes on the job as Minister of Trade and Industry. The current salary for government members is NOK 1.41 million.

In comparison, Vestre’s new boss, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (AP), has a fortune of about NOK 90 million.
