For two years, parts of the wind turbines in Ånstadblåheia in Sortland have fallen off due to strong winds. Now the NVE is threatening to close the facility.
Since 2020, at least seven incidents where objects have fallen have been recorded, according to a letter from the Norwegian Water and Energy Directorate (NVE).
The Directorate demands that the problems at the wind power plant be resolved by mid-October. Otherwise, the plant will be closed. Section manager Anne Johanne Kråkenes told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that the NVE takes the situation seriously.
“We see that objects are repeatedly falling from the turbines in relation to strong winds. This should not happen.”
Ånstadblåheia wind power plant is located in Sortland Municipality in Nordland and consists of 14 wind turbines.
General manager of Ånstadblåheia Vindpark, Noor Nooraddin, confirms that there are problems at the wind power plant but says safety is the first priority.
“The weather and wind in Vesterålen are probably among the toughest things you can subject such machinery to. We have monitored the situation carefully and have always had an ongoing dialogue with the NVE, the municipality, and the alpine resort,” Nooraddin said.
Twenty technicians are currently busy repairing the damage and increasing safety at the facility.
