The Red Cross warns of a great danger of avalanches and asks ski tourists in Norway to make careful assessments before setting out on summit hikes in the next few days.

On Wednesday, the avalanche warning service for the NVE, Varsom.no, reported a significant and large avalanche danger for large parts of Southern Norway.

“This means that in almost all popular areas, you should stay far away from avalanche-prone terrain. We encourage everyone to consider postponing planned summit trips in these areas and rather choose alternative trips,” Kjersti Løvik in the Red Cross Auxiliary Corps warned.

Løvik asks everyone to check local avalanche warnings and be prepared for the avalanche danger level to change quickly.
