Around people 96,300 downloaded the Smittestopp app between Monday and Tuesday when the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) sent out an SMS asking people to download it.

As of Tuesday, the app had been downloaded 658,300 times, according to figures from the FHI. The increase of 96,300 from the day before is the second largest in a day.

More downloads were registered only on December 20, when 117,700 people downloaded the app.

The inhabitants of the 25 municipalities that have been subjected to stricter corona measures in recent days received an SMS from the FHI on Tuesday with an invitation to download the app.

The app can provide users with quick notifications of the risk of infection, and the more people use it, the more effective it is, according to the FHI.
