There were 74% fewer passengers who left Norwegian airports in the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period last year.

In the first quarter, 2.7 million passengers left Norwegian airports, according to an overview from Statistics Norway (SSB). That is a notable decrease from 10.4 million in the first quarter of 2020.

The fall is mainly due to the corona pandemic, which took full effect from mid-March last year.

The decline is greatest for international flights, where the number of passengers to and from abroad has been reduced to only 300,000 passengers in the first quarter, a decrease of 93%.

Domestic traffic

Domestic traffic in the first quarter amounted to approximately 2.5 million passengers, a reduction of 61% from the first three months of 2020.

The amount of goods transported by air, on the other hand, has increased by 11% from the first quarter of last year to the same period this year.

In total, almost 55,000 tonnes were transported from and to Norwegian airports, and over 82% of goods came from or were transported abroad.
