Illegal fishing and trading is a problem during the winter fishing season. The Minister of Fisheries warns that large forces will be deployed during this year’s control.

“There has long been a flood of rumors about illegalities during winter fishing.

“The industry’s organizations also acknowledge that illegal fishing is a serious problem,” Minister of Fisheries and Seafood Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen (H) noted.

The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries has deployed inspectors and three vessels.

In addition, the Coast Guard, the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, and several other entities have been involved.

“Winter fishing creates a lot of value, and we know that great value attracts crime. Now we are strengthening control,” Ingebrigtsen warned.
