The Norwegian Food Safety Authority has uncovered neglect in 18 animal farms and reported 37 animal keepers for related offenses this year.

The most serious offenses were detected on pet farms.

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority detected severe neglect at 15 pet farms.

According to the audit’s report for the first eight months of the year, multiple people were reported to the police, some were banned from having animals, and some farms were discontinued.

“Most take good care of their animals. However, in just under half of the pet welfare inspections, our inspectors found both minor violations and more serious ones,” section manager Torunn Knævelsrud in the section for animal welfare in the Norwegian Food Safety Authority noted in a press release.

Four out of ten animal welfare inspections during the period were related to pets, and the vast majority of these inspections were based on reports.
