Correspondent Jan Espen Kruse in Russia has been brought home to Norway, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reports.

The decision to bring Kruse back home was made based on the country’s new media law, which makes it a criminal offense to spread “false news “.

The Swedish broadcaster SVT decided to leave the country on Friday night, and on Saturday, NRK did the same.

“NRK has decided to temporarily bring home our Moscow correspondent due to the tightening of Russian legislation. Of course, we have the ambition to return in order to cover this war as closely as possible. But now we have a situation where we are present inside a war-torn Ukraine, but not in Russia,” Knut Magnus Berge at NRK told NTB.

Kruse has worked for NRK from Moscow for several periods, and he has been the channel’s correspondent in the Russian capital since 2018.
