Norwegian citizen arrested in Turkey for alleged PKK affiliation

A 55-year-old Norwegian citizen has been arrested in Turkey, suspected of being associated with the banned Kurdish organization PKK, according to Turkish media.

The arrest was mentioned by Turkish media on Saturday. The man who was arrested is of Turkish origin.

A newspaper writes that the man is 55 years old, and that he must have run a business for the Kurdistan Labor Party (PKK) in Norway.

The same newspaper writes that he was arrested in the city of Solhan on Wednesday in an action led by the Turkish intelligence organization Millî İstihbarat Teşkilatı (MIT) and local security authorities, and that the police have seized documents belonging to the group in that action.

The foreign service is aware that a Norwegian citizen is imprisoned in Turkey, writes press spokesman Per Wiggen in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of VG.

The PKK is both a political organization and an armed guerrilla group and is considered a terrorist group by Turkey, the EU and the United States.
