Norway’s Minister of Defense, Odd Roger Enoksen (SP), believes that Russia’s position that it is impossible to continue cooperation in the NATO-Russia Council is negative.

“It would obviously, be negative. I had hoped that, at least in the long run, it would have been possible to get closer cooperation with Russia,” Enoksen told NTB.

He responded to statements by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday. Lavrov stated that it is currently not possible to continue cooperation in the NATO-Russia Council.

“There are definitely not good signals coming (from Russia. Talking to each other, talking, and trying to collaborate is always a good thing.”

Enoksen says NATO is still willing to cooperate with Russia.

“There is at least an invitation from NATO and a desire for cooperation and dialogue. So it is up to Russia whether it wants to continue that cooperation or not.”
