On Friday, the Norwegian Environment Agency recommended banning more disposable plastic products from July of next year.

“It will lead to less littering in nature,” the agency stated.

The disposable products that will be covered by the proposed ban are cutlery, plates, straws, stir sticks, balloon sticks, cotton swabs, takeaway food containers, and drinking cups made of styrofoam.

“The purpose of the ban is to contribute to less littering in nature and prevent plastic from injuring animals that ingest it.

Our proposal complies with the EU directive’s requirements on plastic products”, director Ellen Hambro at the Norwegian Environment Agency noted.
