The demanding evacuation of Norwegians from Afghanistan continues, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide said on Friday. She believes that international cooperation is good.

On Friday morning, the first Norwegian plane with evacuated Norwegians from Kabul landed on Norwegian soil. Flying in and out of Kabul is not the problem.

The challenge is that huge crowds are pushing against the fences at the airport, where only the military part is now open, and that it is difficult to get into the airport.

Søreide urged all Norwegian citizens who are in Afghanistan to register at reseregistrering.no. So far, around 200 people have registered, but the real number in the country is probably higher.

The Norwegian ambassador has been sent to Kabul to assist with the demanding evacuation work. Now, the focus is on ensuring a safe evacuation, Eriksen Søreide said. On Friday, she participated in a crisis meeting with NATO countries about the situation in Afghanistan.

“The meeting confirmed very clearly that this now has the highest priority, and that the Allies will stand together to complete this mission.”
