The Norwegian government recommends the use of face masks on public transport, taxis, and shopping centers to slow down the spread of the coronavirus.

On Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (AP) presented the new recommendations in the Norwegian parliament (Storting).

They will apply from Wednesday.

“A national recommendation is introduced to use face masks in contact with employees in the health care system. We recommend that face masks be used on public transport, in taxis, in shops, and in shopping centers where it is not possible to keep your distance from others,” Støre said.

He said that the government would keep in place the recommendation to test schoolchildren in areas with increased spread of infection.
