Since March, Norwegian companies have contributed six to seven EUR-pallets with critical digital equipment to Ukraine. Now the government is asking for more contributions.

So far, seven companies and one municipality have donated several hundred kilos of computer and telecom equipment to Ukraine.

“This is an important contribution to maintaining digital communication in areas that have been hard hit by the war, so that family and friends can be reached and accounted for,” Minister of Local Government and District Sigbjørn Gjelsvik noted in a press release on Friday.

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development started the collection effort at the end of March in collaboration with the EU. So far, smartphones, computers, and servers have been donated.

“We get a lot of political support and solidarity from all corners of the world. It is extremely important, but for us to win this war – for our common values and our civilization – we also need practical support,” Ukraine’s ambassador to Norway, Vyacheslav Jatsiuk, told the newspaper VG.
