All municipalities around the Oslofjord are ordered to purify their discharges better. The government also wants to ban leisure boats from emptying waste tanks in the fjord.

Emissions from agriculture and sewage have led to much of the life in the fjord dying. The government is now introducing stricter requirements for municipal treatment plants for municipalities around the Oslofjord, according to NRK Dagsrevyen.

“The most important sources are discharges from agriculture and sewage from humans. The municipalities must work to address these. We will work with them to make it happen,” Minister of Climate and Environment Espen Barth Eide (AP) told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

Agriculture contributes a lot to the pollution of the fjord, and according to Eide, the government wants to use larger parts of the agricultural funds for measures that are good for the aquatic environment.
