Health Minister Bent Høie (H) disagrees with President Donald Trump’s statement that there is no need to fear the coronavirus.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Høie emphasized that we must all deal with the fact that we are dealing with a virus that is very contagious and can have severe consequences for many people.

A dangerous virus

“I don’t agree that one should not be afraid of COVID-19. I’m worried about COVID-19 every day, and every hour,” Høie said when asked to comment on the US president’s statements.

“But I agree that we do not have to think about it every single day and every single hour.

“We must have some breaks in life when we think about other things,” he said.

Hope

Høie also supported Trump’s hope that everything will go well in the end but pointed out that it is still crucial to comply with the infection control measures.

Health director Bjørn Guldvog was somewhat more critical of the statements.

“It is possible to agree with Trump in a somewhat positive view of what can happen.

“At the same time, we must be careful with this virus, which I think his statement downplays,” Guldvog said.
