The police must give priority to ensuring that the corona rules are complied with, Minister of Justice Monica Mæland (H) said on Monday.

“We are in a difficult situation, and most people know the rules well. We must expect that they are followed and that people don’t gather for parties,” Mæland stated at the government’s press conference on the corona situation on Monday.

Before the weekend, she had a meeting with police chief Benedicte Bjørnland about the police’s priorities for enforcing violations of the Infection Control Act and the Police Act.

“It is important that the police prioritize enforcing the rules more clearly. In practice, this means fines and imprisonment for serious offenses,” Mæland warned.

In addition, the Attorney-General also said that the police should prioritize criminal law enforcement of the infection control provisions, including rules that have been adopted locally.
