A Norwegian man has been arrested in the Philippines and charged with sexually abusing children. According to the Philippine authorities, the arrest took place at the request of Norway.

The man in his 50s is charged with at least four cases of repeated abuse of young children. He was arrested on Monday this week, the Philippine authorities wrote in a press release.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that it is aware that a Norwegian citizen has been arrested in the Philippines but did not want to further comment on the matter due to a confidentiality duty.

According to local police in the Philippines, the man has been wanted by the Norwegian authorities since 2003. He is said to have been in the Philippines in recent years.

Now he is being deported out of the country.

“We will deport him. He is an unwanted foreigner, and his presence in the country poses a threat to Filipino children,” a leader at the country’s immigration office stated.
