Norwegian Maritime Directorate raises security level in the Black Sea and the Azov Sea

Due to the war in Ukraine, the Norwegian Maritime Directorate has decided to raise the security level in the northern part of the Black Sea and the Azov Sea.

“All ships sailing under the Norwegian flag south of the MARSEC/ISPS 3 area are asked to monitor the situation closely and implement necessary measures from the security plan (SSP),” the Directorate stated in a press release.

Background: Russian attack on Ukraine

In the middle of the night, around 4 AM Norwegian time, in an extraordinary television address, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was launching a military operation in Ukraine.

Putin announced the attack on Ukraine during an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council.

Ukraine has closed its airspace to civilian flights.
