The Norwegian Ministry of Health has decided that women will receive around NOK 5,000 for donating eggs.

According to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK), the ministry decided on the rate of NOK 5,000 to prevent money from becoming a motivation for the donation.

Egg donation has been allowed in Norway from January 1 this year. There has been great disagreement about what compensation should be given to women.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health sent out two proposals for consultation: Around NOK 5,000 or around NOK 10,000, tax-free.

The majority in the Biotechnology Council supported the proposal of NOK 10,000 in compensation. Still, the ministry opted for NOK 5,000.
