Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (AP) will be present in the Storting on Thursday, June 16, in connection with the approval of the draft protocols on NATO membership for Finland and Sweden.
The Storting has made arrangements to adopt a positive position on NATO membership for the two countries as soon as possible. The recommendation from the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee is supported by all parties, with the exception of the Red Party (Rødt), which will vote against it.
The Socialist Left Party (SV) has confirmed that they will support the proposal, despite the fact that they are also opposed to Norwegian membership in the defense alliance.
Finland and Sweden submitted their applications for NATO membership on May 18. What was supposed to be a quick process has been delayed due to opposition from Turkey.
Before the formal ratification process can begin, the 30 ambassadors to the NATO Council must sign a so-called accession protocol, an invitation to the alliance.
