A Norwegian pensioner who tested positive for COVID-19 in Spain escaped from the hospital and went to the hotel bar on the sunny Spanish coast.
As a result, the pensioner infected 18 elderly Norwegians and two employees at the hotel in Torremolinos in the Costa del Sol region, the newspaper VG writes.
“The hospital notified the hotel management that he escaped. It turned out that he traveled back to the hotel and mingled with others in the lobby bar and restaurant,” general manager of Vitus Reiser Håvard Moldskred told the newspaper.
Another member of the travel group is probably the source of the infection. The man traveled from Bergen to Malaga even though he did not feel well.
“We give clear recommendations that everyone should be healthy (if they travel). If they are not, they should not travel,” the manager said.
One of the infected people has been hospitalized, while the others have been quarantined. According to Moldskred, everyone is fully vaccinated and has mild symptoms.
