The Norwegian Public Roads Administration postponed the deadline for removing the studded tires from cars. The new deadline is May 1.

Although the deadline has been postponed, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration encouraged people to replace studded tires as soon as possible.

There are several practical corona-related challenges, such as workshops that may be closed or have reduced capacity, Ingrid Heggebø Lutnæs in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration noted.

Lutnæs hopes the new deadline does not make people wait longer than necessary to remove the studded tires.

“It is unfortunate to have vehicles with studded tires on the road longer than necessary. The combination of studded tires, dry roads, hot weather, and driving speed gives a lot of airborne dust. We ask that those who have the opportunity to change them as quickly as possible do so to reduce other environmental impacts and not wait as long as possible,” Lutnæs said.

New deadline – May 1

The usual rules state that the studded tires must be replaced by the first Monday after the second day of Easter in Southern Norway. The deadline in Northern Norway is May 1.

Now, people can legally drive with studded tires all over the country until the end of April.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration issued a similar corona postponement last year.
