Terror suspect Anders Cameroon Østensvig Dale has been arrested in Yemen, the Police Security Service told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

“What the PST can say about Dale now is that he is in custody in Sana,” the PST’s Haris Hrenovica told NRK.

43-year-old Anders Cameroon Østensvig Dale from Nesodden is said to have joined Al Qaeda in Yemen (AQAP) over ten years ago. In 2014, he was charged by the PST for participating in a terrorist organization. The US State Department has previously said that Dale has learned how to make bomb belts, improvised explosives, and larger explosives for use in car bombs in Yemen.

“Our information is that he was in a hospital. This can be assumed to be due to an injury,” Hrenovica said.

Situation in Yemen

Yemen has been engulfed by a bloody civil war since 2014. The capital Sana, where Dale is now in custody, is controlled by the Houthi religious rebel group, which is fighting the government in the country.

That means that it will be difficult to get the Norwegian extradited.

“Sana is not in the control forces of the government forces. Sana is controlled by the Houthi militia, so it can present challenges,” Hrenovica added.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that they are aware that Dale has been arrested but noted that they had not provided consular assistance in the case.
