A total of 43 million passengers traveled by train in Norway in 2020, a decline of almost half compared to the year before.

The decline is mainly due to coronavirus restrictions.

The train traffic crossing the border was hit particularly hard. Here, there was a decrease of 85% in the number of passengers, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB).

A total of 34 million tonnes of goods were transported on Norwegian railways in 2020, a decrease of 2% from the previous year.

Out of the total, 18 million tonnes were transported to Norway, 3 million tonnes out of Norway, while just over 13 million tonnes were transported within the country.
