The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has formally terminated its consideration of Russia’s application for membership.

The OECD announced the news in a statement on the organization’s website on Friday.

The membership process was postponed in 2014 in connection with Russia’s annexation of the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula. The process has now been formally terminated as a result of Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

The OECD Council has asked the Organization’s Secretary-General to take the necessary steps to close the OECD’s Moscow office.

The organization expresses strong solidarity with the Ukrainian people and condemns “Russia’s extensive aggression” against the neighboring country.

Norway is among the OECD member countries.
